About Miss Thomson! **UPDATE** Ms. Zander (I just got married!)

Hi and welcome to fourth grade! I am excited to be working here at Sherman Elementary School.
A bit about me, I grew up in Meridian, Idaho before I moved to California to continue my education. I have a B.S. degree in Geology from Sonoma State University with a minor in paleontology and an emphasis on petrology and volcanology. I decided to go into teaching rather than pursue a career in volcanic research due to falling in love with working with children. Since graduating, I have pursued my teaching credentials, worked as a long-term substitute teacher in the 3rd grade while living in California, moved back home to Boise, Idaho where I worked as a paraprofessional at a STEM school in Kuna, and worked at the College of Western Idaho in their science labs before I began here at Sherman.
The fact that Sherman is a STEM-focused school really excites me and is what drew me to becoming a Gator! fourth grade is also the year students get to learn about geology and I am so excited to get to share my love for studying the earth and rocks - who doesn't like pretty rocks? - with my students. Having a background in STEM just means that I get the ability to engage my students more with fun science experiments and teach them more interesting and fun facts they might not get elsewhere.
I really am looking forward to getting to your students and working within the Gator community!
