COVID-19 Update

March 25, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians of Nampa School District Students,

Today is Wednesday and we didn’t plan on communicating anything new today. However, with the governor’s press conference today ordering “Stay at Home” for the entire state of Idaho, we want to take a moment to share how this will impact the Nampa School District.

First of all, education is considered an essential function. Our plan to offer online/distance education is highly aligned with this order.  Starting Tuesday, March 31, all Nampa School Districts sites will be closed to the public. On Monday, March 30, our sites will be open from 8AM - 4PM for essential business only. Essential business is collecting your student’s medication, picking up a band instrument or checking out your student’s device. If you are unable to come to your child’s building during this time, please call the school and make an appointment or other arrangements. Remember, this is essential business only. Our buildings will be staffed with only two essential personnel on this day and will implement strict social-distancing protocol.

We have plans in place for our personnel to work from home as well and we will be following the guidance of this directive. On Monday, March 30, we will finish our work to forward our phones to the appropriate person for each building who will be working from home. Please be patient with us. Our intent is for you to have a real person answer the phone, but in some cases, you will have to leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.  It is possible that some staff will still access buildings as they perform the functions of the district, but they will abide by mandatory social distancing etiquette as well.

We did also announce today in conjunction with our city that our playgrounds are now closed. This action is designed to prevent groups of children from gathering. Please note that our buildings have been equipped with WiFi that will be accessible outside of each of our student-occupied buildings. If you need to access this, you must follow social distancing protocol – no group gatherings and at least six feet between individuals.

We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to provide education to our students while protecting staff, students and families from potential exposure. Our community needs us to “Stay at Home” now so that we can return to routine at an earlier date.

At the end of this week, if not sooner, we will share an important phone number – the help desk! Our staff will provide this service for our students and parents in case you experience technical issues with a device or software. For curriculum issues, please call your child’s building.

We remain committed to being flexible in meeting the needs of over 14,000 students in the Nampa School District. Thank you for your patience as we work to address the many changing nuances of this situation.
